The concept of this project started with a fascination of a contemporary ‘character’, namely the drifter, the person that is uprooted, that feels out of place. I have researched the role of an individual in a society that slowly suffocates it with high expectations and demands. Individuals that cannot keep pace, lag behind. These people I have portrayed. I located them in both their private homes and public spaces to investigate different forms of uprootedness and isolation in society. These images are as it were filmstills. A story precedes and follows the shot. What the story is behind the pictures, is for the observer to imagine.
